On Oct. 17, Silberline (www.silberline.com) experienced a flash fire at its Tidewood, PA facility. The fire was extinguished quickly and all materials were contained in safe vessels inside the plant. There was no danger to the community.
The incident was contained within the Advanced Manufacturing area, and specifically limited to the company’s StarBrite vacuum metallized flake operation. No other portions of the facility were affected, and all Silberline products other than StarBrite continue to be manufactured and supplied without any interruption.
Four Silberline employees were present at the time of the incident and treated at nearby hospitals. Two were released later that night. Two were admitted and, at press time, were undergoing treatment for burn injuries. Silberline promptly initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.
Also known as the Ernest Scheller III Center for Technical Functions and Advanced Manufacturing, the Tidewood facility is home to the company’s R&D, quality management, sales and technical service departments.
Lisa Scheller, president and CEO of Silberline expressed her appreciation for the quick response of the local fire, rescue and emergency management personnel. “The response time was excellent and the methods used were effective and precise,” said Ms. Scheller, who added that she was thankful for their efforts and commended the many Silberline employees that responded quickly to aid in the emergency effort.
