UVitec Printing Ink, Lodi, NJ, has introduced a UV flexo matte coating with very low gloss that has the flexibility to be used on a variety of substrates, including most paper, film and foil materials used for labels, book covers, packaging and cups and tubes.

Designed using a proprietary formulation, the coating has excellent scuff resistance, as well as smooth lay down and wetting on the substrate to ensure consistency and quality. It provides unique cured film properties that differentiate it from other types of coatings. There is no appreciable loss of coating thickness during the curing process, so it is much denser and chemically resistant than solvent-based or water-based coatings.

UVitec can slightly alter the coating formulation to make it available for almost any application, including in-line tower coaters, off-line roller coaters and flatbed, as well as rotary screen. The company said it has outstanding through cure, which allows presses to be run at higher speeds without the risk of coating set-off.
