New Hampshire-based Spectra, a market leader in the printhead OEM market, and Manchester, U.K.-based Avecia announce the signing of a strategic market development agreement covering the use of Avecia inks in Spectra print heads. This agreement brings together one of the world’s leading independent printhead developers and suppliers with one of the world’s leading developers and manufacturers of colorants, active molecules and inks for the ink jet industry.
Working together, Avecia and Spectra will extend the capability and range of inks for use with Spectra’s piezoelectric print heads. Avecia has been developing ink jet colorants based on its aqueous dye expertise for more than 10 years, and is dedicated to the invention and development of novel active molecules for use in ink jet inks that extend the potential applications of ink jet printing into new areas such as electronic component fabrication. Its core research activities worldwide include dye invention, pigment dispersion technology, and novel polymer and resin development.
“The signing of this agreement will strengthen the existing relationship between Avecia and Spectra, and enable us to develop fluids for current and future Spectra print heads”, said Dr Mike Nicholds, director of strategy and planning for Avecia ink jet printing materials business. “The rapid development of new applications requires the close cooperation of key technology providers who have invested in their core expertise. Together, Avecia and Spectra can bring to customers a package that has a proven record of innovation and delivery.”
“This is a very exciting development for Spectra aimed at establishing our position in complete new markets and novel applications, such as jetting of light emitting polymers, as well as enforcing our position in current markets,” said Per Frost, Spectra’s vice president marketing and sales. “Piezoelectric ink jet is becoming the technology of choice in many industrial applications and the combined expertise of Avecia and Spectra will accelerate this development.”
