At ABRAFATI 2017, Orion Engineered Carbons (booth 25) continued its focus on highly dispersible Carbon Blacks for coatings applications and featured its newest grade: XPB 430 POWDER, a “stir-in preparation” Carbon Black for water-borne coatings.
Additionally, Orion showcased its two flagship Carbon Blacks for coatings applications. These specialty grades for high-jetness in both water-borne and solvent-borne coatings are: COLOUR BLACK FW 255 POWDER for automotive OEM and refinish systems, and SPECIAL BLACK 40 POWDER for industrial applications.
“We [featured] Carbon Black grades that excel in dispersibility, compatibility and flexibility,” said Dr. Jennifer Granados, Orion marketing manager, Coatings & Specialty Applications, Americas Region. “They facilitate incorporation into coatings and offer a wide range of options in formulations.”
XPB 430 POWDER offers the highest jetness levels and strong bluish undertones for durable, high-quality automotive base coats. Also ideal for other high-jetness applications such as premium industrial and plastic coatings and automotive OEM and refinish applications, XPB 430 POWDER is designed for easy dispersion under high shear mixing. It can be dispersed directly in water and develops final colorimetric properties within minutes without further milling or additional wetting additives.
COLOUR BLACK FW 255 POWDER sets new benchmarks for highest jetness, coloristic performance and compatibility with both water-borne and solvent-borne systems. This dual compatibility enables producers to reduce stocking costs.
SPECIAL BLACK 40 POWDER for medium- to high-jet coatings provides exceptional dispersibility and stability in industrial applications. It works in all coating formulations -- solvent-based, water-based, high solids and powder coatings -- providing formulators with enormous flexibility.
