Heidelberg USA announced that Quad/Graphics recently invested in four new Heidelberg Speedmaster presses to support its commercial, packaging and in-store platforms.
Quad/Graphics’ Dallas location – part of the company’s Commercial & Specialty group, which focuses on short-run and print-on-demand catalogs, case-bound books, direct mail and promotional items – recently purchased a Speedmaster XL 106-8P+L with X4 delivery. This press is the first in the world to be equipped with three types of UV capabilities: full UV, LE UV and LED.
This hybrid press reaches speeds up to 18,000 sheets per hour with makereadies of less than 4 minutes. Users of the XL 106 often produce well over 50 million sheets per year.
“Our Dallas plant has a reputation for award-winning quality printing and forward-thinking innovation on behalf of leading brands,” said Tim Ohnmacht, Quad/Graphics president of marketing solutions.
Quad/Graphics’ packaging division, known as QuadPackaging, also has invested in a new Speedmaster XL 106 press for its newly expanded operations in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The new, larger facility, which opened in February 2017, has already doubled its production capacity. It delivers top-quality packaging materials for the cigar, pharmaceutical, medical device, apparel and other industries.
“By outfitting our facility with state-of-the-art equipment like the Speedmaster XL 106, we will be able to deliver premium-quality packaging to clients closer to where their products are created within the Dominican Republic, which improves timeliness and cost-efficiency, not to mention convenience,” said Tom Garland, president of QuadPackaging.
In addition to the Dominican Republic location, QuadPackaging also made a recent investment in a new Speedmaster XL 106 press for its Spartanburg, SC location.
Quad/Graphics Europe, located in, will install a Speedmaster VLF (Very Large Format) press for its point of purchase business segment. The Speedmaster VLF press will help the plant produce various types of packaging and floor displays with complex shapes and structures, serving the food, cosmetics, chemical, motor, alcohol and textile industries.
Heidelberg recently celebrated the installation of its 1000th VLF printing unit.
