DominoPrinting Sciences will address the challenges "of the batch of one" through product serialization at Pharmapack 2014. With the deadline for newly-introduced global standards such as the European Union’s Falsified Medicines Directive just over three years away, the industry has little time to prepare for the changes.
Bart Vansteenkiste, EU Life Sciences Sector Manager for Domino, will share best-practice tips for the challenges arising from creating and printing unique, non-predictive serialized codes while maintaining high levels of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). He will also address the importance of GTIN management, and anticipate future serialization system requirements when updating lines.
Vansteenkiste says: “Simply put, any organization that does not comply with the regulations by the deadline will not be able to supply Prescription Only Medicines (POM) and some Over-The-Counter (OTC) products into the EU or potentially, worldwide.
“Manufacturers do not have an infinite budget to spend on kit upgrades, and with many serving an increasingly global market with numerous local legislations that can be updated at any time, it’s crucial that compliance solutions have as long a lifespan as possible.”
Visitors to the Domino stand (835) at the show will learn more about primary coding technology, such as thermal ink-jet, laser and thermal transfer overlay for item level, high-speed serialization. They will also have the opportunity to find out more about secondary coding products such as print and apply labeling and continuous inkjet, which is key to those also undertaking aggregation, which is not mandated but often implied in a number of emerging legislative requirements.
“By visiting us at Pharmapack 2014, delegates will take away key learnings from various manufacturers’ pilot projects and will become adept at identifying common themes in legislation to future-proof production lines,” says Vansteenkiste.
Vansteenkiste will talk at the Pharmapack’s Serialization, Track & Trace Technical Symposium, on February 12, entitled ‘The hidden challenges of serialization and legislative compliance’. For more information and to register visit www.pharmapack.fr.
