Fujifilm North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division is introducing Graphium, a UV inkjet press, at its “What’s Changing” themed booth at Labelexpo. Graphium is a high speed hybrid UV inkjet press designed specifically for the narrow web market. Its modular design aims to provide functionality as it combines inkjet, flexographic printing and finishing, all inline. It utilizes greyscale print heads that produce a range of drop sizes from 6 to 42 picoliters combined with inter-color LED pinning of Fujifilm Uvijet inks. Graphium features and over and under white capability.
“The direction that packaging is taking in terms of customization and shorter runs requires a solution that incorporates printing and finishing inline,” said Terry Amerine, business development manager, Fujifilm North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division. “Graphium addresses this need and will enable Fujifilm to transform how the printing for packaging and labels is done. This press is truly a game-changer; Fujifilm has claimed the high ground in the wide format world, and now we are doing it in packaging.”
Fujifilm and FFEI Ltd. recently hosted a Graphium Technology Summit in the United Kingdom, and invited guests were able to learn more about the UV digital press, and how this innovative solution can transform their business. Mike Starcevic, plant manager, KURZ USA, attended the Graphium Tech Summit, and was pleased to learn more about the technical aspects of Graphium.
“I was very impressed with the Graphium print quality, inkjet head technology, LED curing system, configuration options, and ease of switching jobs,” said Starcevic.” The amount of technical detail in the design of the various press mechanical component is equally impressive.”
Graphium is able to handle a print width of either 13 inches or 16 inches, allowing printing of the thinnest labels to heavy duty vinyl, including board stock. Graphium offers printers an alternative to flexo and screen printing of short to medium-run, four-color plus white labels and decals, allowing for up to six flexo stations and inline finishing options. Graphium provides a level of flexibility and productivity to print the complex projects that customers increasingly require in today’s market. The inline corona treatment enables customers to print on virtually any substrate without the requirement of a pre coating to achieve adhesion.
Manufactured by FFEI Ltd. in the UK, Graphium is distributed exclusively by Fujifilm in North America.
