"Safety is the most important measure of operational excellence," said Dan Knotts, RR Donnelley's COO. "Our written safety programs serve as a foundation for a safe work place, but it is exceptional management commitment, strong employee engagement, and the individual ownership of safety as a core value that produces such outstanding results."
Star certification is the highest certification level granted by OSHA, and is awarded only after organizations complete an application process and undergo a rigorous onsite evaluation conducted by a team of health and safety professionals. These VPP certifications signify the implementation of effective health and safety management systems and injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for the printing industry.
"This recommendation demonstrates exceptional teamwork, innovation and attention to detail,” Michael Manzella, RR Donnelley's senior vice president of environmental, health, safety and quality, added. “We are proud of our employees' safety record worldwide and especially pleased that our team in Crawfordsville has been recognized with this important distinction."
