Phoseon Technology is targeting its recently released FirePower family of UV LED curing products at the flexographic market. The FirePower products are high performance water-cooled LED curing lamps offering either 12W/cmÇ or 16W/cm2 peak irradiance and come in standard various widths.
The 225mm wide product is ideal for 10” flexographic web presses. In addition, the products can be scaled to offer wider products to fit 13”, 17”, 22” or even wider presses.
“The long-term goal for the narrow-web flexographic press builders is to improve their customers’ productivity, efficiency, and revenue generating potential,” said Chad Taggard, vice president of marketing at Phoseon Technology. “Working with leading printing press and ink manufacturers in the flexographic market has enabled Phoseon to build rugged products that provide superior performance and allow for easy integration into flexo presses. We feel the time is now for the flexographic market to rapidly adopt UV LED curing.
"In a joint development project with Flint Group, we have installed our 16 W/cm2 FirePower on a Mark Andy 4150 press at their Center for Technical Excellence in Minnesota,” Mr. Taggard added. “Even in early testing, the Flint Group has been running tests with their inks at 250 fpm, obtaining extraordinary results, and thus we can ensure flexographic narrow web printers that the complete package of both dedicated UV inks and UV LED lamps are now available."
UV LED curing brings significant advantages to the flexographic market. These include economic savings by offering instant on-off control and do not require costly ventilation; advanced capabilities such as straighter print paths and utilizing thinner, heat-sensitive substrates; and clear environmental advantages with no mercury use or ozone creation.
These new products will be on display at the upcoming Drupa Trade Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany at the Phoseon stand 9A46.
