Squid Ink Manufacturing, Inc. has introduced the SQ/2 ink jet printing system. It allows manufacturers to print high quality dot matrix characters on a variety of products at a cost-effective price.
The SQ/2 printing system – which consists of a user-friendly input device, system controller and the option of one or two printheads – utilizes the company’s patented micro-channeling technology. State-of-the-art micro-channeling technology eliminates the need for a costly array of fluid valves. Ink simply is distributed through a series of channels, keeping production and maintenance costs to a minimum.
“We have basically engineered a new generation of ink jet coders which provide high quality printing at a low cost,” said Bill Hoagland, president of Squid Ink. “When we started development of this printer; quality, versatility, and low maintenance were key design criteria. The SQ/2 has achieved that and is competitively priced to capture a large share of the drop-on-demand market. The SQ/2 offers the best price performance of any ink jet printing system available today.”
The SQ/2 printing system is available with the option of one or two printheads. Customers also choose from three different print sizes: .75” (20.0 mm), .5” (12.7 mm) or .375” (9.53 mm) character height. Each printhead has the capability to print 7 x 5 or 5 x 5 dot matrix characters at speeds up to 200 feet per minute (60.8 m/minute). Customers also have the option to upgrade to different size printheads in the field, offering complete flexibility as their coding and marking needs change.
The SQ/2 also offers versatility for printing on a variety of products. The standard system is designed to run water-based inks for printing on corrugated cases, paper packaging and other porous surfaces. Non-porous surfaces such as plastic, metals, stretch films and coated papers can be printed on with a solvent-based model.
Perhaps the greatest feature of the SQ/2, however, is its ease of operation. The system utilizes a handheld keypad pre-programmed to walk the user through the setup of their message. The user simply follows prompts to print text up to 60 characters in length. For integration with PCs or other systems, a standard RS-232 communications port and interface program is available. Printhead mounting hardware includes quick disconnect fittings for simple set-up and take-down. From out of box to installation, users can be fully operational in a matter of minutes.
