Micro Powders, Inc. (MPI), a leading manufacturer of high-performance wax additives, is celebrating its 35th year in business this year. MPI began operations in Yonkers, NY, in 1971, and then relocated to Scarsdale, NY. In 1989, the company moved its corporate headquarters to Tarrytown, NY, and in July 2006, expanded into its current facilities in Tarrytown.
Founded by James Strauss, current chairman of the board, the company’s original focus was micronized wax for the printing ink industry. Today, the company’s focus and niche has expanded to specialty micronized waxes with emphasis on continuing to develop and introduce innovative micronized wax products for the paint, ink, coatings and personal care industries.
According to MPI president Warren Pushaw, “We keep in very close contact with our customers both in research and marketing. This allows us to anticipate their needs. Our new products can be pulled to market, based on what our customers tell us. Or, we can push them to market based on our own research and in-depth market knowledge. Our medium-to-large overall corporate size allows us the resources to innovate and the freedom to react.”
