The plant produces dry and flushed colorants used in printing inks and other applications, and since 2002 has also manufactured inks used for commercial and packaging printing applications. The plant will continue to produce inks.
"Ceasing operations is never easy for anyone because it affects people's lives," said Craig Foster, president of Flint Group Pigments. In this case, he said, there was little choice. "Our market has changed, reducing the demand for the kind of products we make here and making it inefficient to continue production." He added that production from the plant will be transferred to other Flint Group Pigment locations. Approximately 70 employees will be affected by the cessation of operations. Management representatives met with workers to discuss the kinds of assistance that will be made available.
Mr. Foster concluded that "the action in Holland is no reflection on the employees there or the work they have done over these many years. It is a matter of aligning our resources in the best way possible to ensure the continued growth of our overall business in this very competitive market."
