In an effort to better service the non-impact printing markets, Degussa has pooled the technological resources of its advanced fillers and pigments and its coatings and colorants business units. Degussa is now able to provide high-quality products and services for both color- and black-pigmented ink jet inks.
Degussa’s advanced fillers and pigments business unit offers Printex and NIPex carbon blacks, IDIS pigment dispersions, solvents and Sipernat silicas for use in ink jet inks, toners and media coatings.
By enlisting the aid of the coatings and colorants business unit, Degussa now offers the non-impact printing industry the same degree of expertise that established Colortrend color systems and colorant lines as the leaders in the paint and coatings industry, according to the company. Global service and support is ensured with manufacturing locations in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia.
In other news, Degussa Engineered Carbons announced that it will stop production of all rubber blacks at its Baytown, TX plant, effective Dec. 31, in an effort to better utilize its furnace black capacity in North America. Pigment black production at the plant will cease early in the first quarter of 2003. Production will be dispersed to the five other furnace black plants operated by Degussa.
The site will serve as a distribution facility for Degussa Engineered Carbons and production may restart if business conditions warrant it, according to the company. The closure will result in the loss of approximately 65 positions at the plant.
