Ciba Specialty Chemicals awarded its 2002 Research & Development Awards for groundbreaking work on a new technology platform delivering highly effective water, grease and oil repellants at this year’s Ciba Specialty Chemicals R&D Conference in Basel, Switzerland on Nov. 14.
The award-winning team, led by Ted Deisenroth and Marlon Haniff, demonstrated the success of a new chemical concept to increase water, grease and oil repellency. Together with the other award winning researchers, they created a platform of novel molecules based on this new chemistry and suitable for a variety of applications.
The first product, launched in 2000, was a grease repellant for fast food packaging, Ciba Lodyne 2000. A second product, Ciba Lodyne 2010, specifically designed for pet food packaging, is currently being introduced, and further products are to follow. The members of the award-winning transatlantic team are Ted Deisenroth, Franz Dirschl and Simpert Luedemann from Germany, and Marlon Haniff, Shobha Kantamneni, John Jennings and Michael Bochnik of the U.S.
