Cognis Opts Out of Japanese Joint Venture With Sanyo

September 6, 2005

Cognis B.V., Roermond, The Netherlands, has announced that it will end its joint venture with Sanyo Chemical Industries Ltd., which operated under the name San Nopco Ltd.     Under the terms of the agreement, Sanyo Chemical will completely acquire Cognis’ San Nopco holdings.
According to Cognis, its decision to discontinue the joint venture is part of a strategic move to withdraw from international activity in paper and redirect resources to global coatings and inks activities.
Cognis bought its 50 percent share in San Nopco in 1987. The business is active in coatings and inks, paper additives and other products in Japan and other Asian markets. However, the majority of its sales activity is focused on paper additives, according to Cognis.
