Sartomer Offers Urethane Acrylate Oligomer for Lithographic Inks
Sartomer Company has launched CN9167US, an aromatic urethane acrylate specifically designed for UV/EB lithographic inks. It can also be used in pigmented and non-pigmented UV/EB coatings. It does not contain a diluent monomer, which allows for greater formulation latitude. CN9167US exhibits good pigment wetting, and is useful in systems that use titanium dioxide or metallic pigments, since the oligomer has a low acid value. When used in a UV/EB lithographic ink, CN9167US imparts excellent water balance. More info: Sartomer Company, (800) SARTOMER, (610) 363-4100; web: www.sartomer.com.

Cognis Launches Sovermol 815
Cognis has launched Sovermol 815 branched polyether/polyester to meet the demands of solvent-free polyurethane systems for industrial floor coatings. Sovermol bio-based polyols are free from solvents and VOCs. Sovermol 815 combines good technological and environmental properties, bringing about a balanced viscosity profile, high resistance to acids and alkaline solutions, good UV stability and pigment wetting as well as being markedly hydrophobic, according to the company. Rohm and Haas Offers Dispersing Resins for Ink
Rohm and Haas has introduced two high-efficiency dispersing resins products for organic pigments in aqueous media. These styrene acrylic-based polymers, Morcryl 410 and Morcryl 460 Plus dispersing agents, allow increased pigment loadings to higher pigment to binder ratios without compromising color density and viscosity stability, according to the company. Supplied in liquid form, these dispersing agents allow printers to control performance no matter what kind of processes they run. The products enable broader compatibility with pigment types and other additives including conventional and neutral letdowns. Morcryl 410 and Morcryl 460 Plus also offer advantages for neutral pH processes. Dispersion based on these products can be used with these emulsions and enhance the finished product, adding improved transparency with outstanding trapping, water resistance and clarity/gloss. DSM NeoResins Offers NeoRez U-471
DSM NeoResins has added NeoRez U-471 to its range of elastomeric solvent-based urethanes. NeoRez 471 is an elastomeric aliphatic (mild) solvent-based urethane suitable for printing using flexographic or gravure printing techniques on a wide range of packaging film substrates. Its combination of aliphatic building blocks and excellent pigment wetting, coupled with high bond strengths in packaging film laminates, means this product can be used to formulate inks which pass sterilization and pasteurization treatments, according to the company. Additional benefits are that this product is non-yellowing and has increased alcohol tolerance compared to aromatic urethanes. More info: DSM NeoResins, +31 (0(416 689911; web: www.dsmneoresins.com.
Hockmeyer Launches HCPS Immersion Mill
Hockmeyer Equipment has introduced the new HCPS immersion mill design, which features the addition of an upper auger and interchangeable scraper blades. Every machine includes both a sidewall scraper and an anchor helix scraper. The S series is designed for processing high viscosity and/or highly thixotropic products up to 400,000 cps. Tego Introduces Polyurethane Polyol Resins
Tego has introduced three polyurethane polyols based on aliphatic isocyanate chemistry for formulating flexographic and gravure printing inks and overprint varnishes that require good block resistance, adhesion, gloss and rapid through-drying. Synthetic Resin 1201 is a formaldehyde-free, hydroxy-containing polyol resin, 50% solids in ethyl acetate, with a high softening point. It is designed for use in coating formulations with other film-forming resins for aluminum, plastic film and laminate substrates. Synthetic Resin 1201 NPA is also a formaldehyde-free, hydroxy-containing polyol resin, but is 50% solids in N-propyl acetate. It is used as a co-binder in printing inks and coatings, and reportedly exhibits wetting properties even in combination with difficult-to-wet organic pigments. Synthetic Resin EP-1201 TF is both a formaldehyde- and tin-free hydroxy-containing polyol resin. It has a high glass transition temperature and provides good blocking resistance.
